Making New Friends (Member Sub.)
Having friends is one the greatest pleasures in life, you have people to laugh with, to hang out with, and just share the experience of life with. Making a lot of friends in a new place can make an unbearable situation bearable. I can share with you a couple tips for making friends quickly and forming new networks.
A good way to start off is where to find new people? Social places like bars, coffee shops, or if you are starting a new job, the break room. These are all great places to meet new people. Also school lunch is another great place to meet people if your still in high school or college, common eating areas are a great place to socialize.
Introduce yourself! You cant sit back and wait for people to say something to you, you have got to make the first move if you are going to start making social connections. Don’t be timid or shy, project a confident demeanor and you will naturally attract people to you.
Bring up something interesting, once you have them talking to you start talking about something, anything. As long as you are talking and communicating with them, you are making some sort of impression. Don’t shy away from starting up a new topic or maybe even crack a joke if you are a pretty funny guy. This is a good way to get them to interact and befriend you.
Don’t overstay your welcome. Don’t be overbearing the first time you meet someone, don’t hang out with them for five minutes then invite them along for a hiking trip or to the movies or something. It may make people uncomfortable if you are too eager to socialize. Play it cool, hang out and just try to get to know the person, don’t start stressing out about trying to get them to hang out with you all day.
With these tidbits of advice you should be able to meet a lot of new and interesting people, don’t fill up your schedule books to fast people!
