Tips On Being Funny (Member Sub.)

A lot of people don’t grasp the delicate art of humor, on one hand you have to able to respond at a moments notice with a joke, but it is also about picking your moments. Cracking a joke at the wrong time can feel like bombing on stage and also hurt your reputation if you are at work or even in social circles. A couple tips on how to be funny effectively are pretty basic rules.

Rule number one, know your audience, this can mean your coworkers or a group of friends, it might not be the greatest idea to start busting out the blue humor in a business workplace, (outside of the water cooler).  But maybe political jokes would be fine.

Rule number two, don’t milk it, no one likes a joke that is over played, if you say something funny and it is a big moment for you, don’t milk the cow sore, just enjoy the moment, maybe enhance the joke further with a couple funny remarks, but for gods sake don’t beat a dead horse. 

Rule number three, this is by far the most important, don’t try to be funny all the time, they cant all be winners.  Don’t keep pushing the envelope and trying to revive an unfunny joke, this goes back to not beating a dead horse.  These are a couple simple rules to make sure you have people laughing with you, not at you.
